Privacy Policy

Draft, effective date to be set at publication

This is a working draft, not a final legal document. It's built from your DesignSpark Privacy Policy and your App Bible's data architecture section, adapted for what Calling-Now actually collects. One thing needs your direct input before this goes live: the exact names of your voice AI vendors and their data retention terms, once those contracts are signed. Have your attorney review the full page too.

1. What we collect

  • Your real contact list, read from your device and never written back to it. It syncs only when you open the app.
  • Decoy contacts and numbers you create inside the app.
  • Voice assignments for each contact.
  • Your duress phrases and their paired replies.
  • Your chosen trusted contact.
  • Call recordings, stored locally on your device only, never uploaded.
  • Your location, only at the moment you trigger a duress alert, sent directly to your trusted contact.
  • Subscription and purchase status, handled through Apple's or Google's payment system.
  • Basic technical data, like device type and app version, if you contact us for support.

2. Your voice during a call

When you're on a simulated call, your spoken words are processed in real time by two vendors so the AI agent can respond to you naturally:

  • ElevenLabs handles speech recognition and voice generation. By default, ElevenLabs retains conversation transcripts and audio for up to 2 years, though this window is configurable per agent, including shorter retention or disabling audio storage entirely.
  • Anthropic's Claude powers the conversation itself. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, inputs and outputs are automatically deleted within 30 days, and API data is not used to train Anthropic's models.

Given how sensitive a duress conversation can be, it's worth deciding whether to shorten ElevenLabs' default 2-year window before this goes live. That's a setting you control in the ElevenLabs dashboard, not something either of us needs a lawyer for.

3. How we use this information

We use it to run the core features of the app: placing a simulated call, detecting a duress phrase during a live call, sending a silent alert to your trusted contact, and managing your subscription and minute balance.

4. Who we share it with

  • Your trusted contact, only at the moment you trigger a duress alert.
  • Our voice AI vendors, only during a live call, to power the conversation.
  • Apple or Google, to process subscription payments.
  • Law enforcement or a court, only if we're legally required to respond to a valid request.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data.
  • We don't use advertising trackers or third-party ad networks.
  • We don't upload call recordings to the cloud. They stay on your device, with no export.
  • We don't listen for duress phrases outside of a live call.
  • We don't store your location. It's sent directly to your trusted contact only at the moment of an alert.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. We can't guarantee that information you send to us will never be accessed without authorization.

7. Your rights

You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@calling-now.com. If you're a California resident, you also have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising those rights. We don't sell personal information, so there's no sale to opt out of.

8. Children's privacy

Calling-Now is available to people 13 and older. If you're between 13 and 17, a parent or guardian should be aware you're using the app, especially before making a purchase. If we learn we've collected personal information from a child under 13, we'll delete it. Parents or guardians who believe we have information from a child under 13 can contact us at support@calling-now.com.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of Calling-Now after a change means you accept the updated policy.
